Travel & Accommodation

Flying in and getting around

Alessandra’s hometown is called Piombino (pronounced PEE-YOM-BEE-NO). It’s approximately 65 miles south of Pisa Airport. We are recommending that people try and stay either in or around the town.

Air

The principal airport of Tuscany is Pisa, not Florence. There are plenty of flights from Gatwick, Stansted and Luton in particular, with some seasonal flights from other UK airports.

We strongly recommend that you time your flight to coincide with trains from Pisa Centrale to either Piombino or Campiglia Marittima (from where you can get a taxi to Piombino). We want people to use public transport as much as possible, so please avoid the situation where your flight arrives late in the evening when the public transport is more limited or has finished for the day.

Rail

You can take a train from Pisa airport to Piombino. Take the PISAMOVER direct rail service to Pisa Centrale and there are semi-frequent TrenItalia regional rail services from Pisa direct to Piombino oCampiglia Marittima. Train timetables available here: https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html

Road

If you wish to rent a car there is an Avis both at Pisa airport and in Piombino town.

Where to stay

IMPORTANT: Roselle and nearby Grosseto aren’t really tourist towns; there are far more interesting places to stay in the region.

Piombino is a seaside town with lots of nice beaches, restaurants and other things going on in the town (more information on the “Things to do in Piombino” page).

The town is very walkable and if you only plan to stay there (and go to and from the airport and wedding) you will not need to hire a car.

Residence Marina di Salivoli

We are recommending that people stay at Residence Marina di Salivoli, a holiday apartment complex in the Salivoli area of Piombino:

www.marinasalivoli.it/en

Salivoli has several beaches in walking distance: Salivoli beach and marina (1 minute walk), and Calamoresca beach (3 minute walk).

Residence Marina di Salivoli includes an on-site restaurant with panoramic views of the sea, a pizzeria, bar and other facilities.

The town centre is approximately a 15-20 minute walk. In the town centre you will find shops, restaurants and more sea views.

We can put a hold on a number of apartments with the deposit payable by 1st December 2023. If you want to put your name on this list so you can tentatively hold an apartment, please let us know by Friday 20th October 2023.

This does not stop you from booking directly with them after this date, it’s just that we can’t guarantee that apartments will be available, and you’ll likely need to pay the deposit as soon as you book. If you decide to book with them directly, please contact them by email and mention that you’re with the Cesarini/Walker wedding group.

Other options

Aside from Residence Marina di Salivoli, there are many other options for staying in Piombino.

You are also more than welcome to stay elsewhere in the region.
